Plot Summary

The events begin in 1922 in the Volga region, where famine is raging. A mother donates the last piece of bread to her son, dreaming that he would stay alive and grow up brave and strong. Two decades later, he is already fighting the enemy on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. The platoon is being transferred to the front line.
